CALENDAR OF EVENTS

The upcoming panels and other events were discussed.

DECEMBER 15, 2004 PANEL

Ken Freundlich and Susan Rabin have organized a panel on music licensing issues for television shows. The panel details were finalized and the flyer was already circulated.

JANUARY 19, 2005 PANEL

This will be an evening event consisting of 3 separate 1-hour panels, consisting of (1) a guild update panel (which Marissa Roman agreed to organize), (2) a litigation update panel (which David Helfant agreed to organize), and (3) an ethics panel (which Pamela Forster agreed to organize). The date of the panel needed to be confirmed with the BHBA (but Wednesday, January 19th, was the desired date).

Marissa reported that Howard Fabrick (a labor partner at Akin Gump) agreed to moderate the guild panel. Additional panelists were still being determined. Loyola Law School offered to co-sponsor the guild panel - the proposed terms of the sponsorship were discussed - it was determined that the BHBA would retain all revenues from the event, but give Loyola a program sponsor credit on all advertising. Loyola will circulate the program flyer to its mailing list, which should help boost attendance.

David reported that his litigation panelists were finalized.

Pamela reported that she needed to reconfirm the time and date of the ethics panel with her proposed panelists. Ken again suggested Bob Kehr as a potential panelist.

FEBRUARY 16, 2005 PANEL

Joe Schleimer will organize a panel on virtual rights. The panel details need to be finalized.

MARCH 16, 2005

Judith Dornstein will organize a panel on syndication. The panel details need to be finalized.

APRIL 20, 2005

Kia Kamran will organize a panel on creative commons. He is going to try to get Professor Lessig (Stanford) for the panel. The panel details need to be finalized.

May 5, 2005 - LAWYER OF THE YEAR

Ken reported that the LOY event will be held on May 5, 2005 (the recipient is Tom Hansen). Ken noted that the future ExCom meetings leading up to that event will be heavily devoted to the LOY event. He also noted that LOY committees will be formed at the January meeting, and everyone's participation is needed.

Marc noted that if we intend to publish a tribute book (which is a major revenue source from the event), we should consider engaging Kimberly Hoffman (formerly of the Beverly Hills Bar Foundation) on a
contract basis to coordinate that effort.

June 15, 2005

Susan Rabin will organize a panel on trademark issues. The panel details need to be finalized.

NEW BUSINESS

Gordon Firemark mentioned the possibility of organizing an entertainment symposium between the BHBA and Southwestern Law School (since the BHBA is not as involved with the USC entertainment symposium
as it used to be). This topic needs to be re-visited.
