This section, the largest in the nation, focuses on business and legal issues pertinent to the entertainment industry, including film, television, and music law.  Because the section focuses on the various aspects of a particular industry, it overlaps with a number of other sections including litigation, business, and intellectual property.

CALENDAR OF EVENTS

The upcoming panels and other events were discussed.
JUNE 15, 2005
The idea submissions panel was a big success with over 160 in attendance. The topic clearly had wide appeal especially since all sides of the industry are affected by it. The discussion was frank and practical. The Alshuler firm marketed the program aggressively.

JULY 20, 2005
Joe Schleimer reported that the speakers for the enforcing participation agreements panel was confirmed. Larry Stein, Marty Katz, Steve Sills, and Jim Perry have been confirmed as speakers. Joe also said that his firm was aggressively marketing the prepare through the Hollywood Reporter.

AUGUST 3, 2005
Ken reported that the Grokster panelist had been confirmed. The panel is a joint program between the entertainment and IP sections.

SEPTEMBER 21, 2005
Marissa Roman was not present to report on the status of the panel but by e-mail confirmed that she had a few panelists confirmed for the program and was working to finalize the final details for the completion bond panel.

OCTOBER 19, 2005
Peter Baghdassarian and Miles Feldman will suggest topics for the October program. Some ideas were a panel on court confirmation of contracts with minors in California and a nuts and bolts panel.

HALF-DAY SEMINAR
There was some discussion of bringing back the half-day seminar in the fall with a nuts and bolts independent film panel production focus.

E-NEWSLETTER
Alex Fisher of Emory Law School addressed the committee to propose an entertainment law electronic newsletter. He suggested that the school would prepare the newsletter with ExCom overseeing the project.

FUTURE EXCOM MEETINGS

The July meeting took place on July 6, 2005 (on the regular meeting date of the first Wednesday of the month). There was no August meeting. The September meeting will take place on September 7, 2005.
