PRELIMINARY MATTERS
The Ex Comm meeting began with a brief discussion about the success of the August 9 Branded Entertainment program, which had approximately 130 in attendance. This program's success evidences the importance of selecting a good topic and having enough lead-time to effectively promote the program.

Note: The Los Angeles County Bar Association ("LACBA") apparently had a video game program scheduling conflict with this August program, causing LACBA to ask that the BHBA share its program topic master calendar to avoid future conflicts.

Important Upcoming Event Reminders:
The Beverly Hills Bar Association's Annual Installation & Awards Dinner will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel on September 28, 2006.

The USC Law School/Beverly Hills Bar Association Joint Entertainment Law and Business Symposium will take place at the USC campus on September 9, 2006. This year's symposium will cover a range of topics with a focus on new media and new technology and how to maximize revenue from new media, and will include a discussion of Guild topics. Peter Gruber is the luncheon keynote speaker.

The Beverly Hills Bar Association's 75th Anniversary Gala Ball will take place at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel on December 6, honoring its 75 Years of dedicated service to the legal profession. The festivities will include music, entertainment, comedy, surprises, dancing and fun.

CALENDAR OF EVENTS
Next, the Ex Comm discussed upcoming programs.

SEPTEMBER 20. 2006
Joseph Schleimer has organized the September program about the nuts and bolts of entertainment litigation for non-litigators. The flyer has been circulated. The panelists include Robert Chapman from Greenberg Glusker, Howard Weitzman at Kinsella Weitzman and Marcia Harris at Alschuler Grossman, with Joe moderating. Schleimer & Freundlich placed ads in the Hollywood Reporter promoting the program.

OCTOBER 18, 2006
Miles Feldman and Leigh Leshner are co-chairing the October program about terminating copyright transfers. The Intellectual Property, Internet & New Media Section will co-sponsor the program on a non-revenue sharing basis. The program will address issues raised in last year's 9th Circuit Court of Appeals case, Milne v. Slesinger concerning Clare Milne's ( A.A. Milne's granddaughter) efforts to recapture rights to certain characters in the "Winnie the Pooh" children's books, which her grandfather has assigned to Stephen Slesinger in 1930.
Marissa reminded Miles and Leigh to forward the program flyer information to Pamela Weston as soon as possible.

NOVEMBER 15, 2006
The Ex Comm discussed potential "music" topics for the November program. Topic suggestions included: Music and termination of manager/agent commissions; the new business model eliminating the bifurcation of rights; technology and live events; new technology and digital downloads; music royalties versus licenses.
The Ex Comm did not decide on a music topic for the program. Kia Kamran and Michael Cerrati offered to co-chair the November program and will flesh out the "music" topic for the next Ex Comm meeting. Following the October Ex Comm meeting, Kia and Michael will need to e-mail Pamela Weston a brief topic description so she can begin to promote the program. Program flyer information should immediately follow so there is enough lead-time to effectively promote the program.

DECEMBER 19, 2006
Marissa Román will organize the December program. The program topic will be hedgefund financing. Further details TBD.
J
ANUARY 2007 - YEAR IN REVIEW
There was some discussion about whether there should be a January evening program. The Ex Comm decided it would move forward with such a program.
Miles Feldman offered to organize a litigation panel. Susan Rabin expressed interest in organizing an ethics panel. Matt Belloni, Editor of Hollywood Reporter Esq. and an Ex Comm member was not present at this meeting but had previously indicated (during the July meeting) his interest in co-sponsoring the program and advertising it in his publication. Matt had also offered to organize one of the panels. Further program details TBD, including finalizing a date prior to the Sundance Film Festival (January 18 - 28, 2006).

FEBRUARY 2007
Caroline Raufi will organize the February program. Caroline suggested a panel discussion about potential pitfalls involving boilerplate contractual provisions that are more often than not raised in litigation. Topic and program details TBD.

MARCH 2007
Pamela Forster will organize the March program on a motion picture or television topic. Topic and program details TBD.

CLOSING MATTERS:
Entertainment Lawyer of theYear ("ELOY")
The ELOY event will take place on April 27, 2007, with Barry Hirsch as the honoree. Marissa suggested we begin to advertise the event earlier.

Southwestern Law School/Beverly Hills Bar Association Joint Entertainment Law Symposium
Caroline updated the Ex Comm regarding the symposium, which will take place at Southwestern Law School on April 12, 2007. The symposium will be comprised of three panels (1.5 hours each) concerning global issues involving technology, producing abroad (tax, immigration, labor issues), and doing business in the emerging markets of India and China.

Marissa raised the issue of whether the Ex Comm wanted to have an April program in light of the April 12 symposium and April 27 ELOY. The Ex Comm agreed with Marissa that it would be important to select a standout topic for this month if an April program remains on the schedule.

Incoming Executive Committee Officers (October 2006 through September 2007)
Caroline Raufi: Co-chairperson.
Pamela Forster: Co-chairperson.
Miles Feldman: Secretary.
