Preparing for Municipal Bankruptcies in 2010 and Beyond:
What everyone from Vallejo to Beverly Hills needs to know about Chapter 9 of the Bankruptcy Code

If you represent municipalities or clients that deal with municipalities, you will not want to miss this opportunity to learn from a judge and attorneys that have unique insight and significant experience in municipal bankruptcies, including Orange County, California, the largest in history. You will learn what entities are eligible for a Chapter 9 adjustment of debts and how that differs from a Chapter 11 reorganization. You will learn how liability for municipal debts might be expanded to other entities. The program will cover hiring and compensating professionals, developing an adjustment plan under Chapter 9 of the Bankruptcy Code, and the treatment of union contracts and legacy obligations. You will come to understand the consequences of a municipal bankruptcy, as well strategies to avoid one in the first place. There will be a discussion of current developments and cases affecting municipal debts.
