BHBA Lawyer Referral Service FAQ's

BEVERLY HILLS BAR ASSOCIATION LAWYER REFERRAL & INFORMATION SERVICE

The Beverly Hills Bar Association Lawyer Referral & Information Service was formed in 1976 as a service to the public to provide referrals to competent and ethical legal representation.  The service operates as a private non-profit corporation.  Our major concern is to provide individuals and businesses with an experienced attorney ready, willing and able to provide quality legal services at a fair price.

Our commitment to quality service is demonstrated by our Certification as a lawyer referral service by the State Bar of California which certifies only those referral services that meet or exceed the standards approved by the Supreme Court of California

How Does It Work?

When you call the Beverly Hills Bar Association Lawyer Referral & Information Service, you will speak with a staff counselor who is experienced in analyzing potential legal problems.  The counselors are trained to help you decide if you require legal help, or if non-legal assistance better serves your needs.  If a lawyer's advice is necessary, the counselor will call you with the name and phone number of an attorney experienced with your problem.  Appointments are made directly between you and the attorney or, if you prefer, the Beverly Hills Bar Association Lawyer Referral & Information Service can make the appointment for you.  It may be that your case will need the attention of an attorney, but our statistics show that many times consumer or governmental agencies can provide the necessary help.  Last year more the 75% of the people who called our service did not require the advice of a private attorney.  If referral to a consumer, governmental or public service agency is in your best interests, a staff counselor will be glad to direct you.

How can the service help me choose a lawyer to fit my special needs?

The Beverly Hills Bar Association Lawyer Referral & Information Service consists of panels of attorneys, all members in good standing with the State Bar who have met a required level of professional experience.   They provide an opportunity for you to discuss your problem with a lawyer for a reasonable fee.  Currently we work with over 80 lawyers in over 35 legal fields, including Family Law, Estate Planning, Personal Injury, Real Property, Corporate and Business Law, Criminal Law and Entertainment Law to name a few.  The Beverly Hills Bar Association Lawyer Referral & Information Service in all cases meet or exceeds the standards set for lawyer referral services by the Supreme Court and State Bar of California.

What will this cost?

There is an Initial Fee of $25.00, you are entitled to two referrals (if necessary) and consultations with an attorney of up to a half-hour each.  And keep in mind, you are under no obligation to retain the attorney to whom you are referred.  If you do choose to hire the lawyer for additional legal services, future fees should be decided upon at the first consultation.  Be sure you understand how the lawyer's fees will be determined and when they will need to be paid.   A written agreement that states how the lawyer will charge for services is required by law in most cases and could help prevent further problems.  After the first 2 referrals if you feel you would need any additional referrals the cost is $20 for each referral thereafter.
