THE STATE BAR OF CALIFORNIA’S COMMITTEE ON MANDATORY FEE ARBITRATION
ADVANCED FEE ARBITRATOR TRAINING


An advanced training session for all current volunteers who arbitrate attorney-client fee disputes for Mandatory Fee Arbitration Programs through the Beverly Hills and Los Angeles County Bar Associations and the State Bar of California. The course will provide a focused and more advanced training for those who serve as fee arbitrators with an emphasis on writing the award. Lay persons, in addition to attorneys, are also encouraged to attend this valuable training session.

Speakers will address recent developments in fee arbitration and other important topics such as:
• What to Consider in Writing an Enforceable Award
• Ethical Issues in Avoiding the Appearance of Bias
• Considerations With and Without a Written Fee Agreement
• Effect of Conflicts of Interest and Professional Negligence
• Reasonable Versus Unconscionable Fees
• Role of Mediator vs. Arbitrator
• The Importance of Awarding Interest on Fee Refunds
