Obamacare's Impact on Small and Middle Market Businesses, And Planning For What Is Ahead
In the six years since its enactment, the Affordable Care Act ("ACA" or "Obamacare") has brought significant changes for business owners, from the self-employed to large companies. While the presidential election has featured vigorous debates on its merits, this program will focus on ACA 2.0, i.e. the next wave of transformation ahead. The program will begin with an overview of the current compliance requirements and issues for small and mid-sized California companies and focus on (i) lessons learned to date; (ii) options for employers, including the Covered California insurance exchange; (iii) the debate swirling around the "Cadillac Tax" on high-cost health plans and other parts of the law, (iv) the future of HSAs and employer trends, and (v) strategies for cost-containment, improving and incentivizing workforce health, and opportunities and challenges ahead as transformation continues.
