Everything You Wanted to Know About Judicial Disqualification (But Were Afraid to Ask)
Ever wondered what constituted a conflict of interest, or sufficiently provided the appearance of impropriety, that warranted disqualification of a judge? Or what would compel a judge to disclose a potential conflict (and then what do you do with that information)? The Honorable Judith Chirlin (Ret.) of Judicate West will pose these questions to the Honorable James R. Dabney, a sitting Los Angeles Superior Court judge who is a long-time member of the California Judges Association Ethics Committee (which gives advice to judges on a variety of ethics topics) and teaches courses for judges on the topics of disqualification under Code of Civil Procedure §§ 170.3 and 170.6, among other authorities.
